Statement

The subconscious holds a great fascination, mystery and beauty for me and many of my paintings grow from a spontaneous response to thoughts and feelings of a moment, as if documenting on canvas a stream of consciousness. The finished paintings often provide me with rich symbolism and wisdom for more literal works.
Strong gestures, vivid colours and rich textures express an intuitive exploration of inner worlds. Metallic paints and iridescent inks are used to dramatic and shimmering effect. Recent works have seen forms emerging from my abstract use of colour - creatures such as butterflies, birds & fish.
I am especially inspired by the luminous colour of butterflies and their symbolising theme of transformation.
